Ear Nose and Throat Surgery is a medical specialty which is focused on the surgical and medical management of conditions in the ears, nose, and throat and head and neck. ENT surgeons are also known as Otolaryngologists. Specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. Conditions treated by Otolaryngologists include:
Ear: This involves medical and surgical treatment of ear infections, hearing loss, balance disorders, ringing/ buzzing in the ears (tinnitus) and facial and cranial nerve disorders.
Nose: Otolaryngologists manage and treat all conditions affecting the nose and sinuses such as allergies, sinusitis, nasal obstruction due to polyps, deviated septum as well as smell disorders.
Throat: Otolaryngologists make diagnosis and treat conditions affecting the larynx (voice box) and the upper aero-digestive tract or esophagus, including voice and swallowing disorders.
Head and Neck: Otolaryngologists treat infectious diseases, tumors (swellings) in the head and neck area as well as trauma.
